Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha (attributed) - "Believe nothing, O monks, merely because you have been told it ... or because it is traditional, or because you yourselves have imagined it. Do not believe what your teacher tells you merely out of respect for the teacher. But whatsoever, after due examination and analysis, you find to be conducive to the good, the benefit, the welfare of all beings - that doctrine believe and cling to, and take it as your guide."
Christopher Hitchens - "Take the risk of thinking for yourself, much more happiness, truth, beauty and wisdom will come to you that way."
Richard Feynman - "Reality must take precedence over public relations,
for Nature cannot be fooled."
Thomas Paine - "Moderation in temper is always a virtue;
but moderation in principle is always a vice."
John N. Mitchell - "The finest steel has to go through the hottest fire."
Vergilius - "Felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas."
Hippocrates - "[The] art is long, life is short, opportunity
fleeting, experiment dangerous, judgment difficult."
Edsger Wybe Dijkstra - "Computer Science is no more about computers
than astronomy is about telescopes."
Plautus - "Nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is
really a friend."
Douglas Horton - "The art of simplicity is a puzzle of complexity."
Benjamin Franklin - "They who can give up essential liberty to
obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Richard Hamming - "The purpose of computing is insight, not numbers."
