Renato J. Cintra (SM'2010) received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and D.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Recife, Brazil, in 1999, 2001, and 2005, respectively. He joined the Department of Statistics, UFPE, in 2005. In 2014-2015, he was visiting professor at the Département Informatique, INSA, Lyon, France. During 2017-2018, he is a visiting professor at the University of Calgary, Canada. He is an associate editor for IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters; Springer Circuits, Systems, and Signal Processing; IET Circuits, Devices & Systems; and Journal of Communication and Information Systems. His long-term topics of research include: approximation theory for discrete transforms, theory and methods for digital signal processing, statistical methods, and applied cryptography.
